Holiday Attractions on and around Whangaparoa Peninsula

The Whangaparaoa Peninsula

The Whangaparaoa Peninsula is a short distance from Down Town Auckland, and central to the regions many ‘must do and see’ attractions.

The Peninsula where nature and the city are never far apart provides for a relaxed life style that often features the outdoors and a generous climate.

Enjoy the uncrowded atmosphere of twelve fabulous, safe, sunny, beaches. A perfect base from where to explore one of the worlds most exciting and livable cities.

Prior to 1820 the Whangaparaoa Peninsula (the bay of the whale) was occupied by the Maori tribe of Ngati Kahu who occupied a number of pa sites, mostly located at the tip of the peninsula in the area now known as Shakespear Park. The remains of these pa sites are visible to this day. Frequent whale strandings on the peninsula were a significant food source for the Ngati Kahu.
